Sitka v1.3 out now! [Changelog] [How to update]

Relocating Hemlock's slider to a static homepage

Please note: This FAQ article is specifically for the Hemlock theme.

By default, your featured area slider will be displayed on the page which has your post feed/blog. Sometimes, people prefer to have a static homepage and a separate blog page which features their post feed . Should you want to have your slider appear on a static homepage instead of the blog page, you can follow the steps outlined below.

First, set your theme up with its static homepage and blog page. For instructions on how to go about this, check out our FAQ article: How to create a static homepage and separate blog page.

Next, you'll need to adjust a theme file or two. Typically, you can adjust your main theme files via Appearance > Editor. Alternatively, you can use a code editor plugin such as WPide.

Open up your "page.php" theme file.
On the blank Line 2, copy and paste the following code:

<?php if(get_theme_mod( 'sp_featured_slider' ) == true) : ?>
    <?php if(is_front_page()) : ?>
        <?php get_template_part('inc/featured_area/featured'); ?>
    <?php endif; ?>
<?php endif; ?>

After inserting the code, your "page.php" file should look like:

Be sure to save the changes you've made to the theme file.

Please note: If your static homepage is a page with a sidebar, you'll want to follow the same instructions above though within the theme file titled "page-sidebar.php".

Hiding your Blog page slider

Your slider will now be displaying on your static homepage AND on your blog page as well. If you'd like to hide the slider from your blog page so that it is only displaying on your static homepage, you can go to Appearance > Customize > Custom CSS and add the following code:

.blog .featured-area {display: none;}
