Add "Read More" link to Grid or List Layout posts in Redwood

Please note: This FAQ Article is specifically for the Redwood theme.

By default, the "Continue Reading" button won't appear for Grid Layout or List Layout posts. If you would like to have this button appear below each grid and/or list item, you can follow these steps:

GRID LAYOUT

Navigate to Appearance > Editor > and open up the file titled "content-grid.php".
On Line 28, you will see this line of code:

<p><?php echo sp_string_limit_words(get_the_excerpt(), 31); ?>…</p>

Directly BELOW this line of code, on the blank Line 29, copy and paste the following code:

<p><a href="<?php echo get_permalink() ?>" class="more-link"><span class="more-button"><?php _e( 'Continue Reading<span class="more-line"></span>', 'solopine' ); ?></span></a></p>

Be sure to save changes to the file when you're finished.

If you would then like to add a bit of spacing between the grid item's "Continue Reading" link and the post date below, you can also copy and paste the following into Appearance > Customize > Custom CSS.
Feel free to adjust the pixel value to whatever spacing you prefer.

.grid-item .more-link {margin-bottom: 30px;}

LIST LAYOUT

Navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Editor > and open up the file titled "content-list.php"
On Line 29, you will see this line of code:

<p><?php echo sp_string_limit_words(get_the_excerpt(), 39); ?>…</p>

Directly BELOW this line of code, on blank Line 30, copy & paste the following:

<p><a href="<?php echo get_permalink() ?>" class="more-link"><span class="more-button"><?php _e( 'Continue Reading<span class="more-line"></span>', 'solopine' ); ?></span></a></p>

Be sure to save changes to the file when you're finished.
